Enbridge Scam Alert
Enbridge Releases Scam Notice
Enbridge warns of fraud alert after The OEB fines Enbridge for failure to abide by the terms of an AVC.
Enbridge Gas released a statement this month indicating that they are aware of suspicious emails posing as Enbridge Gas. The emails claim to offer refunds, ask customers to verify their payment methods and renew account information to ensure that gas supply will continue to be delivered to them. These emails are not from Enbridge and are phishing attempts to obtain otherwise personal information.
The most common scam received is an email fraud posing as Enbridge Gas in which they then target people for a potential refund. This comes in light of the public’s knowledge of The OEB fining Enbridge after review of multiple customer service complaints. Many of which are a result of inaccurate meter readings and incorrect billing. To learn more about The OEB fines to Enbridge Gas, please visit our last blog post here.
At CESi, we pride ourselves in customer safety and protection. Here are some tips for handling/identifying phishing and fraud attempts:
- If you have received a phone call from Enbridge and they ask for personal or confidential information, hang up and call back using a phone number from the Enbridge website.
- The email sent begins with a generic greeting message such as “Dear Customer”.
- The message requests personal information, credit card number, or account password.
